Already one of our country’s most important defense companies, Boeing has only strengthened their position in that role by merging with United Technologies to formally become Boeing. It’s no surprise, then Boeing continues to win high-profile military contracts such as supporting the Army’s National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System operations, and multiyear contract with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to build SM-3 Block IB ballistic missile interceptors.
While such growth is viewed as positive, it comes with challenges too. Scaling up a workforce, integrating operations, and accounting for logistics needs are only a few of the challenges to contend with on top of the reoccurring problems teams at Boeing deal with daily. Among these are:

- Product Complexity created by part variations or engineering change orders that complicate managing bills of material (BOMs) for multiple programs
- Supplier Performance without benchmarking that makes measuring supplier performance difficult especially under Indirect Spend categories
